Seagate Technology recently launched Fundamentals of Six Sigma, an online Six Sigma training program. The 14-hour program provides an extensive introduction to Six Sigma for personnel participating in Six Sigma initiatives. The program covers a range of complex subjects relevant to high-tech manufacturing and design processes, including Failure Mode & Effects Analysis, Measurement Systems Analysis, Multi-Variable Analysis, Design of Experiments and Statistical Process Control.
As Six Sigma is a core management discipline and process improvement program at Seagate, the program will play a critical role in disseminating Six Sigma learning throughout the company’s expanding workforce in Asia. The program has also been made available to Seagate’s customers and suppliers in the Asia-Pacific region.
Dr Chuah Chong Lim, Executive Director, Manufacturing Engineering and Six Sigma Process Leader, who leads Seagate’s Six Sigma program in the region, noted: “We are delighted to bring some of our experience regarding Six Sigma into an online learning environment. Seagate is expanding its operations in Asia-Pacific and e-learning is an effective way to disseminate the knowledge and skills we have acquired in Singapore throughout our workforce in the region. Moreover, Six Sigma is increasingly being used as an inter-enterprise discipline. Our new program enables us to effectively share our knowledge with our customers and suppliers. We have had an excellent take-up rate from the partners to whom we have made the program available so far.”
The highly innovative program was partially supported by a grant under the E-Learning Early Adopters Programme (eLEAP) sponsored by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore. As part of the eLEAP review process, the program was extensively reviewed by the Singapore E-Learning Competency Centre. The quality of the program was recognized by all the reviewers.
To develop the program, Seagate tapped the services of Knowledge Platform, a Singapore-based e-learning company. Dr Chuah noted, “We selected Knowledge Platform because of their experience in developing online Six Sigma training programs. We are now collaborating with Knowledge Platform in various ways to make the program available to Seagate partners and further extend the initiative in our regional operations.”
